Singer and songwriter Ken Lonnquist is a product of the same local folk scene that produced Pat MacDonald and Timbuk 3. On his new LP, "Reasons", the smooth-voiced tunesmith pumps a rich lyricism into songs about serious subjects, such as the importance of coming to grips with the past (North Wisconsin) and the primacy of friendship (The Reason We Are Here). He also lets his hair down now and then and gambols through more upbeat tracks like Little Lost One and Weathervane (probably the catchiest song on Reasons) and the gently rocking Midnight Loves The Moon. This is clearly the work of a very capable folk-pop stylist aided by firm, understated performances from bassist Jeff Eckels, percussionist Tony Castaneda, harmonica player Frank Furillo, and guitarist Doug Brown.
